One of those days

When different cultures meet and mingle, remarkable things can happen. James, an asylum seeker from Zimbabwe, brings you his take on life in Denmark.

Just one of those days when I was looking for a solution to my asylum situation, when I overheard someone say that it was easy to get married and maybe that would guarantee that I would get Danish papers. Hey!!!!! This would be an easier way to cut through the system.

My next step was to find out how I would get my self a Danish girlfriend willing to get married. I have the love and all I needed was someone willing to get married - and oh, what a major breakthrough from all my current troubles. When I asked around I was told by a friend of mine to go to a certain website which had a large directory that described ladies who needed men with particular qualities.

When I got to the website I found one who was interested in a man of my type. We started to exchange e-mails and we would meet in the chatroom. She was real serious with the issue that she wanted to get married to me. We were in some sort of internet love or relationship. As we couldn’t hold this any longer I decided it was time to meet with this my love.

On that evening that we had to meet, I dressed my best, and tried to feel cozy as we were to meet in one of the bars of Copenhagen. Put this in mind that I had never seen this lady in person, so I was so anxious of what she looked like or she would think after she saw me. So how were we to meet? We had described our dressing code to each other.

I was a little late by maybe twenty minutes ...Anyway I got there and there was a someone described by the dressing code that it was her, smiles filled her face because my dressing code also described who I was.

Ohh my God! My excitement soon turned into indifference. She got up to come and hug me, and on a closer look she had lost even most of her teeth, the make up she was wearing couldn’t even change the fact that she still looked older than my mother. She was so excited to see me that she straight way wanted to kiss me. Oh no!! As if I was in a dream I knelt down and told her not to do so, the sweet dream was turning into a nightmare. She came to lift me up as every one in the cafe looked at us in amazement, her skin on the arms was even peeling, as soon as I got up I run for my dear life and made up my mind to let the system take its normal course than me trying to get myself way ahead of it.
