Every year the 21st March is celebrated as the first day of spring and it is also the New Year - Nourooz - for the people of Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran. The tradition of celebrating this day in these countries was started in 539 B.C. by Cyrus the Great, King of Persia.
There is no absolute right source of information as to how the festival was celebrated so long ago. Today this festival is also celebrated by the people of Turkey, Azarbaijan, Kurdistan, Iraq and some of the Balkan countries.
This video shows how the festival was celebrated this year in Denmark.
